International initiatives
Skanska is an active participant in a number of international Sustainability initiatives. Amongst the most significant are the following:
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
Skanska AB has been a member since the formation of WBCSD in 1995. Over the years it has participated in a wide range of WBCSD activities of which the "Energy & Climate" programme and "Energy Efficiency in Buildings" (EEB) initiative are the most important.
United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
Skanska AB has been a participant since the UNGC was established in 2001. In addition, Skanska is active in the UNGC Nordic Network, a network of approximately 60 companies based in the Nordic region. UNGC-NN is recognized as one of the most vibrant of the UNGC regional networks.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
Since established in 2006, Skanska AB has been a sponsor of the UNEP "Sustainable Building and Construction Initiative".
EU Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change (EU CLG)
Skanska AB is the only construction company and only Nordic company active in this high level initiative to work with and support EU policy makers in the field of Climate Change.
World Economic Forum (WEF)
As an active member of the WEF, Skanska AB supports several of the Forum's sustainability initiatives. Skanska has played a significant role in the establishment of the Forum's Partnering Against Corruption Initiative, an initiative designed to counter corruption and bribery globally by developing guidelines for effective corporate anti-corruption programmes. Skanska has also been a supporter of the Forum's Disaster Resource Network, an initiative providing private sector resources to the humanitarian sector for deployment in areas struck by natural disasters.
ISO 26000
From 2005 to 2008 a Skanska AB employee acted as vice-chair of the ISO 26000 drafting process - a set of voluntary guidelines on Social Responsibility. This process involved more than 35 organizations from over 60 countries.
