Developing the project
The project at Norra Bantorget (The North Switchyard), involved development of a degenerated and overlooked central city area in Stockholm. The square and its surroundings is known for its historically political connection, and was in need of a development. During the project development, Skanska had to remove e.g. a gas station and, as always, work very close together with city planners, architects, residents and other development participants around the square. In order to create a modern image for the new Norra Bantorget, Skanska has focused on first class architecture in order to attract the right type of office tenants and modern stores, cafés, restaurants etc. to the area.
Constructing the project
As with almost every city project the space is somewhat limited. The work also had to be done with minimum interference with traffic etc. Since the office building is quite close to the railway (entrance to Stockholm) this was also a challenge in terms of space.
