Project information
The project involves demolishing and replacing a 110-year-old railroad swing bridge over the Hackensack River. The project replaces a new two-track fixed structure, two approach spans and a center span crossing directly over the river. Work includes constructing railroad embankment and a new bridge over the Newark/Jersey City Turnpike.

Portal North Bridge’s three arches were prefabricated at the Port of Coeymans, then floated down the Hudson and Hackensack Rivers—passing beneath 18 movable and fixed bridges during the 30-hour journey of each span.
