Project case study
On the LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Redevelopment project, our team strengthened sustainability performance by embedding education and collaboration into day-to-day construction activities. Through monthly “sustainability office hours,” our team ensured subcontractors understood project goals, documentation requirements and their role in delivering against multiple sustainability rating systems.

The LaGuardia Airport Terminal B Redevelopment was pursuing several sustainability rating systems, so consistent communication and clear documentation were critical to project success. To support this effort, our sustainability team established monthly “sustainability office hours” dedicated to subcontractor training and support.
Rather than relying solely on written guidance, our team treated “sustainability office hours” as interactive workshops. Subcontractors were able to work directly with sustainability team members to complete requirements in real time, including filling out sustainability coversheets and researching documentation needed for compliance. This hands‑on approach helped demystify sustainability processes and made expectations clear across all trades.
By creating a regular, approachable forum for questions and learning, “sustainability office hours” played a key role in communicating requirements consistently throughout the project lifecycle. The result was stronger engagement from subcontractors, improved documentation quality and greater alignment around shared sustainability goals—demonstrating how proactive education and collaboration can translate sustainability targets into measurable, project‑wide action.
