Prefabrication

We offer multiple prefabrication approachs including design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA)- and civil infrastructure prefabrication methods. Tailored to project needs, they improve safety, quality and schedule certainty while reducing onsite and environmental risk and inefficiency from concept through installation.

A smarter way to build

Skanska uses prefabrication to deliver infrastructure more safely and efficiently in environmentally sensitive areas, constrained sites and within tight schedules. As an early pioneer of multi trade prefabrication in the U.S., we take an integrated, end to end approach that connects planning, design, fabrication, logistics and installation. Our expertise and data-driven insights help clients determine when and how prefabrication will deliver the greatest value.

From strategy to installation

Early planning and design integration

We identify prefabrication opportunities early—when they can have the greatest impact. By engaging clients, designers and trade partners during preconstruction, we align decisions sooner, reduce downstream risk and unlock schedule advantages before work begins.

Fully coordinated models

Multi-trade and volumetric prefabrication strategies rely on high-quality, fully coordinated BIM models. These models integrate all support systems and include precise representations of products and assemblies.

Logistics delivery and installation

Assemblies are built in controlled environments, allowing for standardization, repetition and full-scale mock-ups. Components are then delivered when they’re needed—minimizing site storage, accelerating installation and supporting well-sequenced logistics.

Environmental protection and safety

In environmentally sensitive areas, prefabrication allows construction to continue outside of in-water work windows and other ecological scheduling constraints. It also improves jobsite safety when work zones are too small to safely cast in place.

We apply prefabrication across a wide range of building systems, infrastructure projects and assemblies, tailoring solutions to each project’s needs.

Integrated MEP solutions

Multi-trade racks, corridor utility racks, and prefabricated mechanical and electrical skids streamline installation and improve coordination.

Ready-to-install interior systems

Bathroom pods, headwalls and footwalls accelerate schedules while enhancing quality and consistency.

Efficient vertical infrastructure

Prefabricated risers and shaft assemblies simplify routing and reduce on-site complexity.

High-performance structural and envelope systems

Panelized precast panels, exterior wall systems and structural framing deliver speed, durability and precision.

Volumetric modules

Modular central utility plants, clean rooms, electrical rooms and other volumetric spaces expedite critical scope elements and mitigate supply chain volatility.

Infrastructure elements

Precast concrete and prefabricated steel.

Mass timber elements

Engineered wood products fabricated to a 16th of an inch in tolerance, and incorporating elements such as waterproofing insulation and MEPF penetrations.

Proven results in practice

Across complex projects and markets, Skanska’s prefabrication approach delivers faster schedules, safer jobsites and more predictable outcomes. When planned early and executed as a strategy, prefabrication improves efficiency, quality and overall project performance.
