The future’s looking bright for art

Skanska was awarded the prestigious project of renovating and refurbishing Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. Nationalmuseum was reopened in 2018, and the public was once again able to enjoy Northern Europe’s greatest art collection.

The atrium’s beautiful glass ceiling at the newly renovated Nationalmuseum lets the light in. Part of the elevator shaft is seen with a surface of braided brass.
Special solutions have been required in order to maintain the cultural and historical values of the building and meet all requirements for modern technology. The colors in the vaulted ceilings have been carefully restored to their original appearance.
Ventilation, sprinkler and smoke detection are hidden in the beautiful stucco of the roof.

The banisters at Nationalmuseum have been supplemented with extra metal bars in the spaces for better security.
All the spaces have been carefully renovated. Every little detail is important.
The halls have been repainted in various interesting wall colors.
