Skanska redevelops army vehicle storage facility in the West of England, UK, for GBP 259M, about SEK 3.2 billion

Skanska has signed a contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to redevelop a British Army vehicle storage and maintenance facility based in the West of England, UK. The contract is worth GBP 259M, about SEK 3.2 billion, which will be included in the order bookings for Europe for the second quarter of 2022.

Skanska will deliver the construction, along with mechanical and electrical engineering services of new storage buildings, workshops and an office. It will see a complex programme of demolition of 58 buildings, construction of 12 new buildings and refurbishment of one existing facility, plus renewal of site wide infrastructure. The work will modernise the facilities to create a sustainable and safe way of maintaining and protecting British Army equipment and vehicle fleet.

The project will use modern methods of construction to reduce programme carbon emissions through offsite manufacture of key components that will be installed onsite. The project aims to achieve DREAM Excellent – the defence estate environmental assessment standard.

The assignment builds on Skanska’s long-term partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and follows successful delivery of the Worthy Down tri-forces training facility in Hampshire during 2021.

Work is due to begin on site in the third quarter of 2022, with completion targeted before the end of 2026.
