Skanska has signed a contract with Statkraft for the construction of the new Svean power plant in the municipality of Klæbu, Trøndelag County, Norway. The contract is worth NOK 507M, about SEK 500M, and will be included in the order bookings for the Nordic region for the first quarter of 2025.

Skanska will construct an entirely new power plant close to the existing facility, allowing the current plant to remain operational for most of the construction period. The new power station will be built inside the mountain, and the contract includes all building-related work for the new station. Skanska will excavate a total of 1.6 kilometers of tunnels for the project. The 3-kilometer-long transfer tunnel from Selbusjøen to Svean will be reused, but a new intake will be built in Selbusjøen.

The new Svean power plant will replace the current station, which has been in operation since 1940 and requires extensive rehabilitation. The new power plant will have an annual electricity production of approximately 130 GWh, which is roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of 6,000 households.

Construction will begin in January 2025, and the project is scheduled for completion in December 2027.
