Rehabilitation. Sustainable building renovation

Skanska rehabilitates and upgrades buildings for future requirements of energy, function, and safety. We have documented experience with complex projects and protected buildings across the country.

How can rehabilitation reduce the carbon footprint of your building?

There are many emissions when building new. When we renovate instead of demolishing and building new, we save materials, energy, and reduce the climate footprint. This is how we do it – step by step.

  • Preserves what can be used

When we rehabilitate, we utilize existing structures instead of demolishing and building new. This saves large amounts of materials and reduces emissions from production and transportation.

  • Choosing materials with a low carbon footprint

We replace what must be replaced with solutions that have lower emissions – such as recycled materials or products with documented climate impact.

  • Upgrading to energy-efficient solutions

Rehabilitation provides the opportunity to improve insulation, ventilation, and technical systems. It reduces energy consumption throughout the building's lifespan.

  • Planning for circularity

We think long-term: materials that can be dismantled and reused, and solutions that make the building flexible for future needs. This reduces waste and extends the lifespan.

With respect for history and preservation

In buildings with conservation values, it is about more than following rules. It is about cultural heritage, and at the same time creating buildings that function well. Therefore, we work closely with the conservation authorities and start dialogue early. The collaboration allows us to preserve what matters, while giving the buildings new life. In the rehabilitation of the Høyblokka, we have combined conservation with sustainable and good solutions in close dialogue. Interaction with the conservation authorities is a natural part of the responsibility we take as a rehabilitation contractor.
