Our history
Skanska's global history began in Sweden in 1887. We started our activity as a concrete producer – a fitting beginning, right? Concrete is the foundation for everything built to last. We were driven by two goals: introducing innovation and building what is good for people and society. And these goals remain with us today.
135 years shaping the way we live
Since Rudolf Fredrik Berg founded the company Skånska Cementgjuteriet in 1887, Skanska has been part of historic changes. From saving the 3,000-year-old Abu Simbel temple and building global power plants to erecting important landmarks on the world map, such as the Oculus in New York and LaGuardia Airport, London's The Gherkin, and the Öresund Bridge.
And this is just the beginning...
We are proud of our journey so far, but this is just the beginning. Our world faces challenges and opportunities that we will seize thanks to our knowledge and ability to anticipate in order to shape a better future.
