Hospitals

We know what it means to build cost-effective healthcare facilities close to an existing healthcare operation that must function smoothly throughout the entire project and the requirements placed on the organization in very large, technically complex hospital projects.

To build close to healthcare operations

Hospital projects often take place over many years, while daily nearby healthcare operations must be conducted without disruptions. The projects are also often carried out as a combination of renovation and new construction. Through long experience in building and developing healthcare projects, we have gathered knowledge, insight, and a great understanding of the entire process.

Successful healthcare projects through knowledge sharing

Open dialogue

An early and open dialogue with a shared vision between the parties is the key to a successful project. With flexible and cost-effective solutions, the business can develop and change based on new needs.

Share knowledge

We share knowledge and experience between countries and business units. A global network within Skanska is tasked with documenting, improving, and disseminating knowledge and experience in the healthcare sector.

Specialist group

A specialist group contributes with experiences, expertise, and technical solutions from other hospital projects. Through study visits, seminars, and environmental scanning, knowledge exchange and development in healthcare construction are promoted.

Minimize disruptions

Construction sites at hospitals require that hospital operations function without disruptions throughout the entire project. We plan carefully to minimize disturbances such as noise, dust, and vibrations so as not to affect existing care.

Megaproject with special requirements

Many hospital projects are so-called megaprojects with special requirements for experience and competence. We have extensive experience from similar projects in Sweden and other countries and have developed a working method for how we organize and manage megaprojects specifically. Our experience has taught us that the meeting between people is central – both between client and contractor and between healthcare staff and patients, and we always listen to their needs.

We have a close collaboration and solve things together. Sometimes healthcare needs to adapt, and sometimes the construction needs to adapt; it is about meeting and finding the best way forward. We experience that there is an understanding of healthcare and our patients, while at the same time we have gained insight into the complexity of building in a hospital.
