Our goal is to introduce low-emission construction in all our investments, and ultimately achieve net zero emissions by 2045. This includes an interim target to reduce our own emissions (scope 1 and 2) by 70% by 2030 compared to 2015 emissions, and emissions in the value chain within the development of our projects (scope 3) by 50% compared to 2020 emissions.

Our climate goal is based on scientific data, in accordance with the requirements of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). It has received accreditation of compliance with the limits required to maintain global warming at 1.5°C - in line with the Paris Agreement target.

Actions we take to reduce CO2 emissions vary depending on the investment — therefore, the impact of decisions made during the individual stages of its implementation also varies.

Decisions made at an early stage have a significant impact on reducing the use of materials with a large carbon footprint, and creating energy-efficient solutions significantly limits the total CO2 emissions resulting from the implementation of the investment.

Skanska has been measuring carbon dioxide emissions and reporting them since 2008. The year 2015 is our baseline year in terms of our own emissions (scope 1 and 2). In recent years, we have expanded and improved the quality of data regarding our value chain and use the year 2020 as the baseline year for our value chain emissions (scope 3).

The confirmation of the direction we have taken is the scientifically approved climate target, which involves reducing CO2 emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by Skanska by 2045.
